An internal injury may not be able to be diagnosed by a simple examination: imaging tests may be required in order to determine what exactly is wrong and how to proceed with treatment. As medical technology has evolved, imaging tests including MRIs and X-rays have been able to shift to digital in order to provide a safer and more effective experience for patients. AFC Urgent Care Cedar Grove is proud to house a fully digital radiology department in order to provide our patients with the most accurate diagnosis and care.
Differences Between Digital & Traditional X-RaysWhen traditional films are taken, you’re looking at a long visit before you even get to a doctor. After waiting for a machine to open, you’ll need to wait for the tests to be performed, developed, processed and analyzed before you can see the physician for your diagnosis. With digital X-rays and testing, images can be captured and processed in under one minute, as well as zoomed in and out to detect smaller and equally painful injuries. While traditional films come out in large prints you’ll need to keep track of when visiting doctors and specialists, digital images can be stored on any hard drive, allowing you to keep them on a thumb drive or even on your phone. Digital radiology also requires the use of less radiation, which can be harmful in larger doses.
What Can Be Diagnosed with Digital Radiology?Injuries that are sustained through falls, automobile accidents, and sports injuries can be diagnosed through digital imagining, including:
- Bone conditions that cause pain and affect your quality of life
- Joint damage
- Hairline fractures
